Baines: “Our games to wins ratio isn’t good enough”, by GrandOldTeam

Leighton Baines reckons Everton haven’t been good enough this season and called on his teammates to take responsibility and improve.

Baines told the ECHO. “We know we are very much capable of winning games but our record, at the moment, would suggest we aren’t doing that enough.

“Our games to wins ratio isn’t good enough for the amount of talent that’s in this squad so, as a collective, we have to take responsibility for it and try and improve and do it as quickly as we can, while we’re still in touching distance of the clubs above us.”

“We’ve thought to ourselves ‘a decent run here and we’re right back in it’ but doing it is another thing.

“There are no easy games in this league and you see everyone beating each other and strange results but we go into the Swansea game at Goodison knowing that if we can string a few results together then we are right back in the mix.

“With two or three wins we can pick a few teams off and get ourselves in a position to have a run at it towards the end of the season.

“We are not winning enough football matches at present to justify being higher up the league but we have got to find way to start.

“Hopefully we can get a positive result in the cup and come out of the next few weeks feeling good about ourselves.”

Which can be summed up as - " we can't defend a lead " .

And it devolves into a Martinez thread.

He is right when he says "so, as a collective, we have to take responsibility for it and try and improve and do it as quickly as we can"...the players must get it sorted on the pitch.

Exactly. Look at the 1st leg against City. We were down to 10 men after Coleman went off and we closed out the game incredibly well by keeping the ball in a very composed manner. It's hard to believe that Martinez took one look at that and said never to do it again. We have the ability, we just need to pull it together more regularly.

Well, I mean it is a bit opposite to what Martinez has been trying to preach today.

2 seasons now of professional players saying the same thing is getting annoying and frankly telling us we are stupid as they keep repeating it and not rectifying it, then they say we want champions league or we might have to look elsewhere, but they cant get it here because of repeated mistakes, so no more speaking we all know it, sort it. I have never witnessed so many, one mistakes, cost a team a goal. so many one shot on target goals going in, panic and confusion in our box every time the ball goes in it. They all look light weight and no steel in their eyes to scare the life out of attackers. Other teams know there is more than a good chance of always scoring nearly every attack thus why we need to keep the ball for the whole 90 mins which we cant do and so leads to wayward passes, impossible passes just for the sake of it and suicidal passes when the whole team is out of position because it might look brilliant if it came off. plus howard causing the fear in the rest of the team, one good match every now and then doesn't hide the fact of many points lost
