A seven-month old baby died after being refused access to Stafford Hospital because its A&E department is shut at night and the children's ward was full.

Holly Waters was pronounced dead on arrival at University Hospital of North Staffordshire (UHNS) after a 22-mile (35km) journey by ambulance on 28 June.

She lived 2.5 miles (4km) from Stafford Hospital.

A hospital spokesman said the paediatric ward had been full and handling an emergency at the time.

I have no words....

F*cking despicable that. Pen pushers and clock watchers are running the NHS and make no mistake.

RIP wee lass x

Whoever the **** looked at the baby and said 'sorry we're full' and didn't do everything they can to make sure they could fit her in needs locking up for manslaughter.

My ex girlfriend had a baby with horrendous complications and the nurses were extremely slow in picking up that something was wrong with him. When they finally did realise they took him away and left her lying there with no explanation for 12 hours. He eventually died 24 hours after being born and a week later they sent her a card through the post congratulating her on the birth.

Absolute ****tards.

Terrible. Just bad. And this from a hospital already with a HUGELY negative press. If I lived in Stafford I'd be a little uneasy about emergency care.

Some poor person who rejected the ambulance because she/he is following rules is gonna have to go thro life with that on her/his mind.
If the hospital is full what can they do, its unfair to blame the person who is following rules.

R.I.P the poor kid and her and my thought are with her parents x

*edit* Its the system that is wrong. should never turn anyone away

There are no words that can explain how this makes me feel.

In some respects we are no better than a supposedly 3rd world country.

Absoloutly disgusting

The A&E was shut since earlier in the year because they didn't have enough staff. Make of that what you will next time Cameron says there have been no cuts in the NHS.
