Away Goals Rule

Yeah bin it...and watch the trend revert back to parking the bus away, then KITAP1 for their home leg

The draw for first game away will be critical... a bit like the toss in cricket.

I agree get rid of it, it would mean more penalty shoot outs which would be entertaining but more 30min extra time which are usually boring and can tire players, so go straight to pens

The whole point of the away goal rule is to make teams attack away from home

If they don't want to play extra time, it will give them enough motivation to attack

Article is being ridiculous quoting the age of the rule constantly as a reason it should be abolished. Let's get rid of offsides and hand ball. They're getting on a bit too.

Only thing that needs changing is that away goals should only count in the regulation 90. Extra time should be classed as even otherwise luck of the draw counts too heavily as to who was drawn away second.

Let's eliminate the back pass rule too, goalies are a lot better with their feet these days so no one would become negatives weasly tw@s like Liverpool were in the 80s. Would they?

Away goals rule is fine as it is, they shouldn't count in extra time though.
As much as i don't like Chelsea, i found it very unfair that they went out on away goals in the CL from a goal conceded in extra time of the 2nd leg.

...I seem to recall Wenger saying the rule is a nonsense after they went out of the Champions League a month or so ago. He is a sore loser though. Not sure about this one, perhaps they might want to consider the League Cup approach where away goals only count after extra time.

Do you not think there's an advantage of playing those extra 30 minutes infront of a home crowd rather than an away one, though?

It's a good point but I don't think it's enough of an advantage that goals should count more.
For me it's like the pens at the end they have to be at one ground but making them count for more after 90 mins at each ground couldn't separate the teams seems unfair.

no. what about a small minnow drawing a team with 50,000 verocious fans. the small minnow is hardly going to get much advantage playing in front of 2,000 fans, as an example.

also, what if the home team has a red card. if they're playing 10 v 11, that's no advantage at all. if i'm a manager i'd much prefer 120 mins away from home to win a game on away goals than 90 at home - the game is played on the pitch not in the stands at the end of the day.

got no problem with away goals rule, i just don't understand how anyone can legislate the rule seeing as it's different for both teams, ha.
