I'm sure that Cahill wanted to go anyway but I imagine that Moyes saw it as a good opportunity to replace a 32 year old with a 24 year old rather than like for like.

That's partly why I left him out, in case it biased the average. I would expect that this will be the last season for Neville and Distin and that Coleman and Duffy will near enough be their direct replacements, which will bring it right down.

Presuming Distin leaves at the end of this season I would expect that Moyes will still want to bring in a more experienced defender as back up to Jags and Johnny.

Our average age is fine tbh. I'd be concerned if our Strikers/Centre midfielders were ageing but our starters are the youngest in the first xi. A Centreback can play their best till the age of about 34 IMO, but of course others might be halted by injury or if you are Italian and last until you're a Grandad. Full backs could be a bit younger tbh, we should be in the market for a young/youngish RB. I'm surprised that we haven't tried to make a move for Debuchy.
