I think that the kind of money being paid for players over 28 shows that this is no longer the case - I guess sports science is playing a role in that. I think though that Moyes is aware and is putting a plan in place to make sure that figure reduces as one or two of the older ones retire in the next season or so. There is no point having younger players though for the sake of a number if they're not of the necessary quality or better than those older.
I'm sure that Cahill wanted to go anyway but I imagine that Moyes saw it as a good opportunity to replace a 32 year old with a 24 year old rather than like for like.
