Player Valuation: £150m
First game v Spurs = 27.4 years
Second game v WBA = 27.4 years
Third game v Stoke = 28.3 years
Fourth game v Sunderland = 29 years
Fifth game v Boro = 29 years

That's quite a trend upwards and we have five over-30s in our line up now who look like being ever presents at this stage.

When the results are going our way as they are now, this wont matter too much. But if they dont continue I can see this striking reliance on older players being the reason for it as the season progresses and a source of worry for what lies ahead.

I think IIRC we put out teams at the early stages of last season when things were going ok with an average age of about 26. And the average age of the starting line up from the last game of last season was 25.

We were terrible last season, an average age of 104.4 and the way we're playing now wouldn't bother me.

Not early on mate. We had quite a few younger players in and were doing fine with them in. The age thing will be important as the season wears on imo.

The team hasn't changed that much this season, but stating the obvious holgate in the team doesnt half alter the average age.

Good point mate, I've extrapolated those points and have come up with the answer that by our last game of the season our average starting age will be 38.6 years. Given our oldest player is 36, it suggests the January transfer window will be interesting !

Lovely work btw
You dont think the first team is looking a bit Dads Armyish?

Fair play to David Moyes he reduced the average age of the squad from the one he inherited. It's a slightly worrying upward trend but we have to buy these proven players to get to the next level.

Probably some Opta stat somewhere that decides that age range is the peak//best one for a football player.

Would be interesting to see other squads mind.
