Australian social media ban for under 16s

WA Toffee

Player Valuation: £40m
With Australia due to implement age verification checks on all social media sites (which I think covers online forums such as this), is there a plan to introduce age verification, will GOT be blocked in Australia or is there a way that GOT gets around these rules?

I doubt there's many under 16s in Australia who even know about Everton much less join a forum filled with cantankerous old men many of whom don't like pineapple on pizza.

Devastated here, tried to get on porn hub last night and its asking me to log in, checked a few others, all the same, WTF
Good, Porn shouldn't be freely accessible, and should require proof of age.. People would rightly be outraged at the taught of a child walking into an adult store and buying a few dirty DVD's... If you are not allowed do it off line then you shouldn't be allowed to do it on line.. Hopefully a similar ban comes along here.

How swiftly people walk into tyranny.

Just give your info to any and all websites. It's not just those under 16 who they check, it's everyone. You will all be putting important information over the web. Best of luck with that.

If you think this is anything to do with kids you may be fooling yourself. Already the UK is censoring tweets from MP's, etc, demanding age verification when it has nothing to do with protecting children, and all about monitoring what you say, and who says it.

How very Orwellian.

We're based in the UK and do not target Australian users.

Our own terms insist membership is 16+ and we ask for confirmation of this, however there is no requirement for us to implement age verification, and we have no plans to restrict access to the site from Australia.

Ultimately, our goal is to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all users, while complying with the legal requirements relevant to us as a UK-based platform. Which we do.
