Does anyone on here own one of the above-mentioned cars?

The Mrs. has set her heart on getting a new car, and those three form her shortlist. I'd be grateful if anyone could provide an opinion on things like reliability and known issues. Also, I'd personally like to know which of the three, if any, handles snow and ice best (I appreciate tyres make a big difference here!), and if they are all inferior to a specific alternative of similar type?

Many thanks folks.

I have a touareg, love it but quite heavy on diesel and the car tax is about £450 per year.

Got 61 reg touareg black with cream interior. Stunning car, great specs - infotainment system excellent, fantastic drive and 0-60 amazing for such a big car. Look around, I got mine new £9k off list

Oh getting about 30 to gallon, car tax was £250 insurance less than £400 with churchill

M class , third one bought after driving one for a year in Bosnia, Sarajevo gets tons of snow in the winter but I didn't notice!!!! I get about 30mpg on my diesel auto but on the motorway it is brilliant on the juice.

It's a/c is instantaneous and it's heater the same.

Really can't fault them and would only change mine for X5 or Range Rover but can't afford too.

Not knowing what year you have looked at and price quoted I could not comment, but virtually everything is a buyers market at the moment so haggle like its going out of fashion.

I tax was £150 for 6 months, a bit cheaper for 12 months but slings when it was due.

Had nothing major mechanically but use local garages and ebay for parts so no issues there unless buying brand new.

Hope this helps?

Baines, you're a cynic. The Mrs. is buying the car with her own money because she likes shiny things - I have a strong aversion to automatics so by default I would not buy any of the above, even if I could afford one. I'm just hoping for some input from anyone who's driven any of the above, so that I can divert her away from wasting more money than she has to.

Many thanks to Harry, P66 and Ralphie for their contributions.

Not sure about the q5 or M class but the Touareq is what i'd buy, i had a brief drive of one last year and was well impressed with the engine's power considering it's a fairly heavy vehicle, i also think it's the best looking of the 3 cars and would expect it to be the best in snowy conditions.

X5.
I love it.
Perfect for Canadian winters.
dynamic stability control means it corners better than most cars.
xdrive AWD so it rarely loses grip and never on all 4 wheels.
Stealership servicing is very expensive so I found an import garage. though it was built in North Carolina so its not really an import.
Oil changes are expensive, 8 litres of synthetic.
