I was a bit like that mate,I remember being sadly fascinated in the 1974-75 season at our home gate v Newcastle which was dead on 40000,that just didn't seem possible to me as a 9 year old kidlol

Talking about the old turn style attendences was a club not investigated for tax purposes as they were undercooking the crowd numbers to avoid tax, vat etc I'd it was one for us , and one for them to get cash in hand!
No computerised systems then - surely semi pro teams can do it today - hope they do because how they survive from the conference down baffles me!

All sorts of dodgy things going on in clubs books.

Sunderland were relegated back in the days of the maximum wage as punishment for overpaying their players. They got suspicious when it turned out they were meant to be spending 10,000 a year on buying straw to put on the pitch when it was waterlogged.

Their straw must have been almost as good as our lawn mowers.
