Zatara

Player Valuation: £100m
I think we're seeing our attack really take shape this season;

Barkley 21
Deulofeu 21
Lukaku 22

I find myself making similar comments across all three individual threads, in that we really need to add someone on the left to join this group of players. Someone of similar age and ability especially to compliment this attacking unit.

Kone now has another year but is 32 and if we take a look who is competing with him for the spot none of them seem to be a good 'consistent fit' for the position and we need to have a similar situation on the RW with Deulofeu and Lennon (One experienced (Kone) and one younger) :

McGeady - likely gone in Jan
Naismith - Not a LW
Pienaar - Gone in summer
Mirallas - Who knows??!!
Cleverley - Likely to be shifted into CM

We've been linked with a few players recently who seem to fit the bill, I think this will be the next priority outfield signing we make.

My question is, what type of player should we sign to play on the LW and who realistically could that be (if we do offload the 4 players mentioned above)?

Correct, left wing.

I voted Kanchelskis type as i think having someone like him would really take us to another level and also compliment the other three...Deulofeu's crossing and Barkleys passing into him and Lukaku could be devastating.

I understand the shouts for a playmaker but i think we should leave that to Barkley for now and if he drops back into centre midfield then we can bring someone else into his current Attacking central position.

Think we need more goals in the side.

...struggling to work out what is meant by LW, presume Left Wing. Much depends on who else we have. Kanchelskis types don't grow on trees.

I think we should play Cleverley there and let him play the Pienaar role.

Not really a winger but a left sided central attacking midfielder. LAM in FIFA speak.

Someone like Mertens would have been ideal.

Pienaar + Baines was the magic.

We don't have that combination play any longer. Not sure there is anybody affordable that could provide that chemistry.

RM clearly wants somebody hard working to balance Deulofeu or Mirallas, even though we play two holding mids.

We have Baines and then Baines mrk II in Garbutt to return. We'd be absolutely nuts to bring in a direct, maverick winger who is going to stay wide and attack the right back.

We need a Pienaar type, someone who can bring the best out of Baines/Garbutt by selflessly getting them involved as well as being able to deliver more subtle through balls when the opponents retreat into their third of the pitch.

Eriksen, Silva, Tadic...someone like them.

It's not necessarily about how good the player is, it's how he fitted in with the side, and how important that position is to our attacking play.
Many players over the last 15 years have been important to our attacking play. Pienaar would be lucky to be in the top 5 imo.
