Player Valuation: £2.5m
Just watched Bilbao give Manyoo a footballing lesson in their own backyard from the first minute till the final whistle. With relative unknowns...Bielsa has managed to get Bilbao playing free flowing football in next to no time. How much Everton could do with a manager of Bielsa's know-how and experience.

It's amazing what a young, well drilled side can do if they're allowed to express themselves. The majority of their starting XI were 23 or under. Just think that we've still got Neville plowing along. :(

We have no Arteta-type like footballers. Bilbao has probably more than 5 guys like that. So, no chance..

Anyway, I was absolutely blown away by that Athletic today's perfomance, as I haven't seen them play under Bielsa. If there would be no Everton in this world, I would definetely love that club more than any other! Well, as I already liked Athletic for some years, I really can say Athletic is my 2nd favourite team on this planet.. That cantera policy is absolutely incredible..

I'd have to agree here, they have alot of VERY gifted technical players and that Llorente fella is a damn good lone striker and those two young wingers they have...phew.

But in all honesty, you have to remember, they have a very unique setup with their Basque-ony policy and whatnot...which makes it all the more impressive really

They might be relative unknowns here, but I don't think that's the case in Spain. That aside, they're impressive. There's an article on the beeb site about them. The speed and intensity of their game was the polar opposite of some of the sh*te we've produced recently.

I saw them play like that in pre-season against Spurs. But Bielsa got Chile like that at the last World Cup didnt he. The touch and technique and off the ball movement is top notch and its all down to hours spent on the training ground working on that, not just how to get men behind the ball, defend in numbers and work on defending set pieces!.

In this day and age you've got to stop having an emphasis on having big aggressive players and look to good, technical players with speed of thought, vision and quality to pass and move like the likes of Bilbao and Barca do.

In England we tend to think small players arent what we need and arent big enough to succeed but in Spain height counts for nothing if your technically gifted. Muniain is a great example for me that size isnt everything, i think he's 19 isnt he and he made his debut for Bilbao at 16 and with his size he wouldnt be a regular in a Premier league team like he is in Bilbao as is size would be seen as a dis-advantage to the team.

Im not intending to slate Moyes or trying to make it sound like i am but Moyes would go for height and physicallity over short, technical players everyday of the week as he's said on numerous occasions in the past its important to have big players in the team to help out aerially when defending and attacking set plays. Ive heard him say a few times when Felli as returned to the team after injury or whatever that weve missed his height in both boxes and also say how important Cahill is in both boxes cos of his aerial prowess.

Football's changing, especially on the continent and it looks like English football is starting to fall behind. Barca are the pace setters and the best team in the world right now and they can basically play anyone off the park but when a team like Athletico Bilbao are going to Old Trafford and giving them a footballing lesson then it shows just how far ahead they are of us in Spain.

I'd love Everton to be able to play half as good as what Bilbao did tonight but Moyesy doesnt have those philosophies and i dont think he ever will and tbh we probably havent got the players to replicate that but we'll just have to accept Moyes as he is as he knows how to get results with his own philosophies, it would just be nice if we could play some quick, attractive, attacking football sometimes instead of seeing alot of ugly football that we endure!.

Top post mate.

Bielsa is one of a kind. Having said that, this was a good squad without him last year.
