Athlete Stripped of Gold Medal

I can't help but think that the whole championship is all a bit meugh anyway. I mean there aren't any Jamaicans or Americans in the sprint events, nor Africans in the distance ones. Are there any track and field events where Europeans really do that well in these days? I'm guessing that some of the field events are perhaps more contested by Europeans on a global scale, but can't think of many track ones.

Mo Farah?

But yeah, just a small jump up from the Commonwealth games without the US & Jamaica & Kenya.

Oh for sure, there are one or two there, but not many really. I mean how many events are there? 50 or so across men and women? I'd be surprised if more than a handful have Olympic champs in them.

So, if we limit sporting events to those at which all the world's best compete in every event, then what?

Apart from the Olympics and World Championships there wouldn't be any.

And that's just athletics and, say, swimming, without including dozens of other sporting competitions.

We had the same criticism of the Comm' Games again last month, but the Jamaicans and Africans were there.

I didn't say anything about limiting competitions to anything, merely that many of the events were missing the very best (which seems sadly to be a growing trend for Europe), and as a result I haven't really been that interested in the competition.

That's just my personal opinion. I'm sure avid athletics fans will be enjoying it, as will more casual fans that just like seeing British athletes winning things.

I mean the events I do are a long way from anything resembling world class, but I appreciate that they're put on, and they do seem to attract a few spectators/well wishers too, which is nice. I'm sure many would not find them all that riveting however :)

Which rule has he broken? The one good thing about athletics is that there is no subjective component to the result like in figure skating or synchronised swimming and rubbish things like that.

Banning the athlete who came first just because no one likes him is as daft as football pundits discussing which side "deserved" to win.....
I think one of the rules Is that you have to be wearing a number that is visable on your bib.

As Walken said. To complain to officials after the yellow card warning by the spanish team, to bump someone up a place on this is embarrassing. To win a bronze, to win a medal on this basis is a red face moment.

Will his family congratulate him on the medal he earned.
