Absolutely pathetic this.

Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad has been stripped of his gold medal after deciding to celebrate his gold medal victory by taking his shirt off down the home stretch before the race even finished.

It appears the athletes who finished 4th and 5th complained to the officials citing the rules on shoes, clothing and bibs etc.....

Adding to the controversy, the Spaniard who originally finished 4th (who complained), which in effect promoted him to the bronze medal, failed a doping test not 11 months ago in the Spanish national championships.

pretty stupid, but to claim bronze in that manner is a bit embarrassing, to be fair to the athlete is was the spanish team that put the compliant in

I've actually enjoyed the euro's though, Gemili looked the business in the 200m tonight, and Hudson smith took silver behind Rooney, running 44.7 at 19 years of age is pretty decent

It is embarrassing yes.

The sport in general should have a look at themselves here though. I know rules are rules but surely a warning would of been sufficent here. To take his gold medal away for that is shocking.

I think the umpire or refs or whatever they are gave him a yellow card as a warning, but once another country put a complaint in they were bound by the rules

bit of a lack of respect to other athetes in the race, but think a fine/warning would be enough..
He's 50 yards clear though. Barring a sniper bullet or a Pterodactyl coming out of no where, he is quite clearly home and dry.

Its no different to players celebrating a goal by removing a shirt or over celebrating a goal. They're given a warning and you move on.

If he's a Kopite I agree with this punishment.......

BTW, I'm pissed, and I mean really pissed, so if my grammar is not up to standard I apologise............

This took me ten minutes to type, sorry..............
