Aston villa?

So guys what is your opinion on what is happening at Aston villa. Some of their defeats this year have been incredible. They chased the dream, went wrong due to some bad buys etc etc. decided to cash in on all their major assets, won't play their major sellable asset in Darren bent and now have a team with lots of kids and in a relegation fight. Could be disasterous for them financially should they go down. Reason for the interest there where a few posters on here saying we should do what villa are doing and also a few saying it could be worse we could e villa (Matt Damon where are you). Was Lerner all that? Did he put his OWN money in to villa or just burden it with debt? If he did put his own money in is he not getting it all back and more buy selling all the major assets? Discuss.

I think like most clubs without a super rich owner that can happily blow hundreds of millions, they punted on getting into the CL. If they go down they could end up like a Leeds/Shef Wed/Forest in no time.

Lerner allowed MON to overspend & put ageing players on massive contracts, whilst chasing the CL dream.

He fell short & Lerner turned the taps off, as he'd invested enough & needed the club to become self sufficient.

He has invested cash, as he's converted some of the debt into equity. However, he has also loaned the club cash from another of his businesses & this is interest bearing, he has also put hefty 'management charges' on top.

He's going to have to go again this month, otherwise they're certs for the drop imo.

Lerner was okay but stupid, much like the Portsmouth owners, too much trust in their manager, too willing to make a gamble.
Its what many fans want us to try to do.. push the boat out and make that financial push for 4th. Could so easily see us go out of business if we did though.
Its easy to see the attraction when your doing well, hell we're in 5th, just another 20 mil will get us that player that will make the difference... got him.. injured.. fnish 6th... game over.

They are very depend on Benteke. Not sure why Lambert bought Lowton and Bennett, don't think they are what Villa need at the moment.

Everybody who spends too much and gets in trouble (i.e portsmouth, Leeds, Villa) is one more team who we can finish above.

Unfortunately the amount of teams who spend too much and just end up with with really good teams instead is still enough to mean we don't finish top or even 6th.

We need more Ridsdales and less Levys in the game.

To be fair , their older experienced heads have been missing ...Petrov , Agbonhalor? , Dunne ...but I don't think even they could steer that ship into safe waters.
