Hello all, I was wondering if you could help a fellow blue brother out.

For the last couple of years I've been training in sports broadcast journalism, done my masters and have started out working freelance with my own equipment.

Although I am capable of doing just about everything (filming, editing, graphics and commentary – even writing match reports) I’ve always had trouble getting full time jobs with the “big boys”, having previously been knocked back for jobs at Villa, West Brom, Crystal Palace, Man United and even (god help me) Liverpool!

Same result with lower league teams – Leicester, Bournemouth, Notts County and Swindon.

Only at Liverpool did I get to interview stage, but had a bad ’un to be honest as the software they use isn’t the same as mine.

Presently I cover my local side but I am currently on a bit of a break, so I’d like to take this opportunity to ask your opinion of my work and tell me how you think the product could be improved and impress the merciless HR departments of our football clubs across the country!

There are quite a few videos, but I’ll just link you to one.

Your help and advice is much appreciated.

1) Listen to Michael Owen on BT Sport
2) Do everything different

(will have a look at your work later and offer more advice - but those two steps are pretty on the money tbh)

I know it's a parody, but listen to how excited he is when those goals are going in, he loves it!!

It's closer to the real thing than it first appears. Maybe not the swearing though.

Ok. You're reporting on a football match, not a rape scene on BBC news. You sound a bit monotone and need to sound a bit more happier. It's like you are reading from a script.

You need a bit more personality in there mate. Maybe add a bit of humour occasionally? Make it feel like it's coming from you as a person instead of your idea of how a commentator should sound.

I know the OP's got a masters, but how can you not learn something from this ???

Really wish Boston would get back into the Football League...

You could probably learn a lot from Stuart Hall mate.

It might be worth analyzing his broadcasting too.
