They might have last year, in fact IIRC it was reported by decent sources that signing Arteta was their plan if Fabregas had gone, but he'd be a completely inadequate replacement based on last season's form.

I don't necessarily think Arsenal need to replace him anyway, Ramsey and Wilshere are each a year older and are both going to be world-beaters.

I'm just asking a theoretical question. I'd have thought Mikel would be a good fit in terms of their style of play... rather keep him like, but everyone's got their price.
