Boss Urges Yak Caution – News Archive – News – evertonfc.com – The Official Website of Everton Football Club

David Moyes is remaining cautious over the return of Yakubu.
The striker has figured in a couple of reserve games and also played the last 15 minutes of the Europa League game at Sigma Olomouc.
But Yakubu's most recent second string outing was cut short at half time and his progress is being carefully monitored by Moyes.
"Yak's been out for nine months and he will have to get a lot of training and a lot of football under his belt before we feel he's ready to start Premier League matches again," said the manager.
"He played 45 minutes for the reserves again this week but felt his hip and his back tighten up so we had to take him off."
The Nigerian ruptured his Achilles in November last year and following an operation he has been gradually building up his fitness, culminating with a first appearance for the reserves last week.
He scored after just 30 seconds but Moyes is urging caution.
"We have to understand that he has been out for a long time," he added.
But there is promising news of Mikel Arteta, who is following Yakubu down the road to recovery following a ruptured knee ligament injury.
"Mikel's doing well and there's a chance that he can join in (training) with the other boys in maybe a week or two," revealed Moyes.
"But he, too, will need reserve games before we can call on him."

They will be back all guns firing in November. I have consulted the tealeaves and they told me this scoop.

Also, fresh OJ is set to rise in stock value,

although we're missing them big time, i'd much rather see them come back in safely over being rushed and getting injured all over again.

i think the current team can get results from the next 5 games.. maybe bringing the yak in little by little over this period..

arteta still sounds some way off tho..

Whenever a player is out for so long, when they return they are usually hounded by little niggly injuries (muscle strains usually) for a while. Yak is probably starting to feel this now as did Eduardo last season. It will take him a while to get back up to speed so perhaps November is about right to be aiming for full fitness. Arteta sounds like he's a few weeks behind him though.

I think this'll be Arteta's final season at Everton, but i reckon that both will be back in first team action at the end of Sept/ early Oct.

I know it's a long way off but close your eyes and ponder:

Yakubu back in the rotation within a month
Arteta back in the fold within 6 weeks
Jagielka back probably mid November
Heitinga and Bilyetadinov worked in and acclimated
Moyes brings in either RVDV or Defour or Moutinho in the January window (selling Vaughan or Anichebe for some extra scratch)

Howard

Heitinga - Distin - Jagielka - Baines

Bilyetadinov - Neville - Arteta - Defour/Moutinho/RVDV/Cahill - Pienaar

Yak / Saha

Makes me grin just thinking about it.

Bold statement mate. Expect some revolution if this happen.

With the fairly recent birth of his kid i reckon his missus will pile pressure on him to return home to Spain , no other English club will get a look in.

I'd love to be wide of the mark but i'm already resigned to it.
