Don't go for the usual posters/commercial prints of the 'big names' of modern/postmodern art. Doesn't matter who you go for, it'll be predictable and boring.

There's thousands of contemporary artists out there. Splash out on a good print (or if you can afford it an original) from someone up and coming. Obviously it depends on your style, so get out to a few galleries and discover for yourself.

Over the years I've picked up relative bargains from artists such as Tom French, Myoshka, Craig Davison, Simon Bull and Peter Smith. I know they're not to everyone's taste but they look great on my walls, have always been good talking points and some have increased in value since I bought them.

The Rocks Brothers from the North east are worth checking out as is Henderson Cisz. Also just hung three pieces by my daughter who is studying Art at college. If you are really desparate I have a signed Rolf Harris print which for some reason appears to have crashed in value...
