Player Valuation: £1m
both players have been linked to us this transfer window. i know theres a similar thread, but downing is more similar to arshavin than sidwell, so which would you rather?

Downing pros: played in premier league and is used to being kicked, is english and has played for his country, Middlesbroughs top scorer (ino not saying a lot). still only 23. has played with Yak. another option for freekicks/ corners with left foot.

Arshavin pros: captains his country, good leader ? definitly knows his way to goal-55 goals in 229 games in Russian league, 7 in 26 for Russia, 11 in 25 in UEFA cup. versitile, can play Deep Lying Forward, winger, attacking midfielder, Shadow Striker. from what iv seen, can beat his man, has pace and dribbling ability. 26 years old.

I like the sound of Arshavin but have only seen him play ninety minutes! Not overly excited by Downing but wouldnt be upset if the price was decent

Don't think we really need either to be fair. Would rather spend the money on a defensive midfielder.

ino we need a new DM, but have you got any in mind? people wer after Appiah but hes injured. i am worried about Carley though, i remember he nearly left us at the start of the season.

I don't know at the moment. There are players I would like, but value wise not going to happen. Barry for instance would be excellent, and Reo-Coker is still young. But whether or not Villa would let them go.

yeah would be great to have one of them in our side. never going to happen tho because villa want what we want- european football. selling your best players is never going to get you there. also, money comes into it. when youve got teams like manure who can shell out 30-40m for Carrick and Hargreaves, makes you wonder how were going to afford a new DM and thats if one becomes available.

Well first of all we have to understand one thing - Moyes spends wisely (90% of the time). Arteta cost us less than 4m. Same with Cahill. We don't need to spend 15-20m on one player.

ST: which one would you take?

reckon id have Arshavin. Downing is a left winger, Arshavin is more versitile, which is invaluable once you pick up a few injuries. also Downing is young and english, so his price is likely to be inflated-worth 12m? read somewhere that we could have the russian for 8m, wether thats true...

I'd like to contribute in this thread but it seems Bluewoo has decided to ignore me for having a different opinion over Cars. Shocking. :)

I don't like this Russians name, reckon it would be ridiculed by the RS.
