For what it's worth, I think it's a valid concern. Will Stoke City really go 100% if winning means missing out on Europe? They may start out at 100% but will they lack that little bit of extra hussle at a vital moment? Even if they go full bore and lose, people will still question their performance.

Any time you make it beneficial for a team to lose a match, you open up a whole can of worms. Just change the date.
