Are they for use or just demarcation?

Obviously if you are travelling with someone you know, it’s neither hear nor there, but when sitting next to a complete stranger, who gets the armrest, or as an evolved and non entitled group of humans we all know neither passenger uses them as they simply mark the space between seats as ‘no man’s land’

Slightly unrelated, but I’m going away this weekend, and we weren’t going to bother paying to pick our seats, so we let the airline assign them for us. Me and my wife both have the aisle seats on the same row, and now everyone is going to think we’re those selfish bastards who purposely booked 2 aisle seats.

I feel like I’m going to have to explain myself to everyone who walks past.

On a plane I am always allocated the middle seat as (allegedly) I am tall enough to see over my friends head, (and she books the seats). When waiting to board I look around at the other passengers, find the one that most closely resembles Billy Bunter, and assume they are going to be in the seat next to me - with significant overhang of flesh to intrude on my space. Love flying!
