Jesus wept. Wooden ships and blueys where the rage back then. Fair play my friend.I did my National Service in 1954/1957. Signed on as a 3 year regular. Served 2 years in Singapore and Malaya. Was attached to the West Yorks regiment in Malaya. I was in the Pay Corps and when I was in Malaya thought I would be safe in a back office job. Didn't count on our officer thinking he was John Wayne and we had to take our turns on jungle patrols. There was a special modified .303 rifle for jungle patrol. Shorter barrel and a lot of the stock cut away making it lighter. We were a bit short on these and I had to share with the cook in the cookhouse. He had to do his share too! As I was never on the same patrol as him then I was always sure of getting a hot meal when I got back! lol

I done Singapore when on HMS Sceptre in 2007. Got to say, best place I ever visited. Was wild. Some of the stuff that happened there I dare not speak about anymore. A wonderful place.I think I have posted this before. I flew out to Singapore in 1955. Took off from Blackbush in Hampshire on Monday, landed in Singapore Friday evening. My daughter worked in Singapore for 4 years and used to complain about the 14 hour flight. After experiencing 5 days, I had no sympathy.lol
