My daughter-in-law's paternal grandparents were at Bergen-Belsen. The British Army literally saved their lives when they liberated the camp; they were starving to death and had typhus.

My son-in-law was an RAF pilot at the time of the Kosovo War and he was involved in the 80-day bombing campaign that stopped another massacre of Albanian Muslims.

I'm generally quite left-wing, but I respect much of the work of our Armed Forces.

Spot on, the British army does a lot of good in the world so it's sad that political decisions are used against those serving.

Northern Ireland is another example of where the British Army and the other two services were placed in an extremely difficult position.

Obviously there's numerous reasons, many justified as well, why sentiment turned against their involvement and that shouldn't be ignored.

However, their initial deployment was there to help the Catholic communities and they did; unfortunately they'd eventually become the foe.
