Arise, Sir Bradley Wiggins !

I suppose I was getting at the fact that The Tour is a team sport. In my opinion, Chris Froome could have won it in the mountains, but Wiggins was lead man and therefore won the Jersey.
As for getting honoured for winning a medal at the Olympics, well, again, it's only my opinion, but actually winning the medal is the reward !

Becoming 'Sir' is very nice for Bradley, but it Dosent seem right on this occasion.
And if Brennan is ever proved right, which I hope he isn't, we will all feel a bit duped here..

Sure, I don't really get the whole honours system. WE have to remember though that he hasn't just won the Tour. He won Paris Nice, Romandie, the Dauphine and Olympic TT gold as well as the Tour this year. That's the first time that's ever been done, and Froome wasn't anywhere in that league this year.

Froome is a fine rider but I don't think he's the kind that will take minutes out of anyone in the mountains. Seconds here and there maybe but not minutes. It's a bit like last years Vuelta, he went away from Cobo and we all thought he'd win the race that day, but Cobo pulled him back in. There's been no evidence yet that Froome has what it takes to win major races on his own (because he hasn't done so).

Like you say, a whole lot of poop will hit the fan if he is caught out, but I don't think he has been. He doesn't destroy people in the mountains like many of the dopers of the past were able to do.

I hate the whole honours system for celebs and politicians full stop. Especially for those young enough to still be doing their main job at the top of their game. It's just ridiculous. Watching the Tour de France next year and a commentator chatting about "Sir Bradley Wiggins" will be laughable. I remember years ago some old boy in his 60s would be wheeled out for a medal long after he'd retired and that's the way it should be for me.

And agree with Brennan that after all the recent history of doping it would surely be prudent to wait a few years before honouring any cyclist at the moment.

Didn't his hero Weller refuse a CBE, in true mod fashion will he turn his nose up at a knighthood?

I look at it two ways;

1/ I contribute to saving lives on a day basis, yet neither I, nor any of our team get nominated for awards for essentially doing our job. We get wages instead. Why should sportsmen and women get honours AFTER being honoured in the sport?

2/ I suppose that it's not doing anyone any harm, and that they're only trying to stretch the Olympic feel good factor out a little longer. Is it that big a deal?

I honestly can't decide which viewpoint to go for.
