Are your kids back to school yet?

I didnt know you were a college advisor - we've had some great ones so thanks to you for what is a very difficult job.
- yes she is very level headed and can see the benefits of doing gen. ed. at community college. Quite encouraging really. Our son did some Community College before he graduated but my other two daughters focused on bringing High School credits to their Universities and both graduated in 3 years, which is ahead of the norm for the US but not for the UK I believe. One of them did Community College summer school while she was enrolled in a full time University degree which also allowed her to graduate quicker. Remarkably she finished her BSc at the age of 18!
Awe, thanks. I absolutely love working with students and I try to be more of a mentor than just an advisor. My only complaint is that I don't get pay enough for a job that requires having a master's degree but my passion towards public education keeps me at this job instead of pursuing other jobs where I could make a lot more money.

Taking college level classes while in high school is the way to go. At our college offers a program that allows for h.s students in our area to graduate with an associate degree by the time they are done with high school and it is totally free of charge. I hope my daughter takes advantage of it.

Wow a BSc at 18 is quite remarkable, it seems your kids are doing very well with school and college, congratulations.

Young Master C is at university and has been taking his course remotely from home, he has just been accepted unto a masters course so hopefully he can move out and live in Belfast and get to have a bit of a student life before the real world sneaks up on him.

Hopefully once he moves to Belfast things will be more normalized. It must be hard being that age and not being able to have a fun college experience. Although when I was completing my master's degree I had no time for entertainment. I spent most of my time reading, researching and writing endless number of papers lol

Our daughter's school district has been fully online since last March. It has been a year since she has attended school in person and I believe this lack of social interaction and isolation is having bad effects on her mental health, even if she doesn't realize it. Last week our family had to complete a survey for my daughter’s school stating whether we wanted her come back to in person learning (with COVID protocols and only half of the class going every other week) or stay fully online until June. After a whole year of at home learning and all the challenges that have arose, we made the decision to send her back to school in two weeks. It wasn't an easy decision but I'm feeling more comfortable since the majority of our family has been vaccinated. My daughter however is not very happy about it but after a year of at home learning I'm myself feeling joyous and grateful for this change.

Does anyone else still have kids doing school from home? How are you feeling about it?
My son has been alternating, having one day in school and one day online classes since September. He's happy enough so I am.

He does say he'd rather be going every day if it meant we were back to normal.

That's secondary/high school.

Primary schools are fully presencial and my daughter, who's in the final year of her teaching degree, had to go in to the local primary school where she was doing her practical experience. That finished last Friday. She's had a week of online classes but now has a week on site at the Uni.

She's really missing her social life. I'm happier with them both at home tbh. Vaccine roll out is pretty slow here.

My daughter's school will also be doing alternative weeks so no all kids will be there the same weeks and that way they will be able to reduce the number of students in the classroom at once.

My daughter actually loves her new normal that's what's so appalling to me and the reason I want her to go back to school now that we have been vaccinated and her teacher too.

In Colombia vaccinations are also going very slow. Many of my family members still living there probably won't be getting their Covid shots until this summer, if they are lucky.

I too miss our social life but I rather for us to continue having some isolation for a bit longer if it means getting this pandemic finally under control.

Last day of home schooling today!! Youngest have been back few weeks, eldest back Monday, wife's a teacher and is back FT from Monday. Ill have house to myself again!!!

Mrs. Tree has been back in the classroom teaching this week, much to my immense worry. Yesterday however she came back with a huge bunch of flowers - some of the parents had pooled some cash in order to give her a token of their appreciation for the months of online teaching she's provided. Even better news is that somehow she's been given a date for her vaccination jab - she's ten years younger than me and I was genuinely contemplating sending her in for any appointment I was offered.

Very strangely, the kids have been behaving superbly by all accounts. Early days yet though!

I can imagine your concern. I have a lot of teacher friends that were required to go back to teach in person and had the misfortune of getting Covid. Some of them haven't fully recovered and are still dealing with some symptoms. Many parents feel very grateful for the sacrifice our teachers are doing and it is nice that Mrs.Tree was show some appreciation as it is well deserved. I'm sure the kids behaving well has to do with their own happiness of being back to school, it probably won't last long but at least their current behavior shows how much they are cherishing being back to the classroom.

Today my daughter finally went back to school after a whole year being out. Feeling very comfortable with the Covid procedures implemented at her school and hoping her school will be able to stop any outbreaks.
