Candlemas 2nd Feb is an even older tradition. Thats when ours comes down.
Then you throw in the confusion of missing 10 day with the change over of calanders from Julian to Gregorian,
Also, iirc, the Orthodox Churches are still on the old one...or not...confusing.
The Orthodox Churches do have a fixed day for Easter though, unlike the more 'modern ?' western churches.
In 1929 Parliament passed a bill 'fixing' Easter - subject to the Churches actually agreeing on a date.
*taps foot, looks at watch in impatient manner*
But that as they say, would most definitely be an Ecumenical Matter

indeed as Fr Jack would say that would indeed be an ecumenical matter. I think some of the Orthodox switched over to the gregorian calendar though i think the kyriac, Indian and jacobite orthodox churches share the same calendar now as us and celebrate candlemas - the presentation of the child Jesus; Jesus' first entry into the temple; and the Virgin Mary's purification on 2nd February like the rest of us now.

Candlemas eh, some of those nuns were more of the Quatermas sort....time for bed sisters, candles out now..
pop, pop, pop, pop, pop...

That take their xmas tree down on Boxing Day … or are you normal and leave it up until after New Year’s Day ?
Never understood why people take it down as soon as xmas day finishes.
Same people start looking for Easter eggs on Boxing Day.
