Are we in danger of being too loyal ?

Just read on Sky Sports footie news that the Echo is reporting that Everton will wait till the summer before opening discussions with Osman, Hibbert, Pienaar, Gibson and Mattioni.

Nobody would doubt that the first three have all given of their best for Everton, Gibson is nowt but an injury prone squad filler and I've no idea on Mattioni... so the question has to be, are we in danger of being too loyal if any of them are offered new deals other than pay-as-you-play at the very, very best?

With new investment and the potential to attract real top quality additions in the summer, is it not time to say thanks and good luck elsewhere ?

I think the first 3 will be offered coaching roles.

Gibson will probably be offered another year but has already been advised by his national coach to move for first team football.

Mattioni was a gamble to see if a bit of game time at a lower level could help him over his injury troubles. He's clearly a talented player, just made of glass. I suspect he'll be off in the summer.

Cheerio all bar Gibson.

Ossie will get a decent gig at somewhere high in the Championship, Hibbo can go carping, Pienaar can go to Orlando Pirates and Mattioni can go eat a fresh pasta with a nice bottle of Cianti.

Respectfully, why mate? Just taking up wage space.
We need to start looking at top talent now.

Fans get far too attached and sentimental, but you expect professionalism from the club. I think the fact that we are waiting until they are out of contract says it all really. If we were actually concerned about keeping them, then we would be entering negotiations long before they were out of contract. Only Osman has a chance of a further contract, and I agree that it will only happen in the event of European qualification.

Also, ridding the wage bill of that lot will relieve us of circa 150k a week in wages, which is 60% of Mourinho's going rate, and about three times the amount that the likes of Emery and Simeone are currently being paid.

Wait for the summer.........

Until they're all out of contract....

And then our management team go on holiday and turn their phones off....

It's 'respect' speak for - we're dumping this lot lads.

I don't think we need any of them (though I've honestly no idea who Mattioni is so can't comment on him???).

Pienaar, Hibbert and Osman will be looked back fondly for their peak periods by most and Gibson will go down as a nearly man who could've been great if he'd stayed fit.

Play them all in the Derby as a good bye send off, some real good memories of all those players but we have a future to look forward to now that will no longer need them.

Hibbert should've been shown the door after that 'performance' in the Cup Final.

It's a massive shame that Osman and Pienaar are over the hill. The peak versions of those players would've been great options in the squad.

Start expanding your expectations people. We don't need quantity of average anymore. To add this current squad we need 3 or 4 top quality footballers that will need to be paid for and given a good wage.
Start clearing out "deadwood". I hate that term when talking about people's lives and career, but we have a new Everton now.
