Gonna be serious.

If our understanding of science, like physics, chemistry and biology, is actually right and is the same throughout the universe, then almost certainly, no.

If our understanding of probability, statistical analysis, and maths is actually right, then almost certainly, no.

If our understanding of light years and the ability to travel faster than we currently understand to be feasible is right, we will never ever actually know.

This has really got to me and got my mind thinking...

It will do somewhere, but we might not recognise it if we saw it because we have preconceptions of what constitutes life based on how it appears on earth.

I went for Cheese on Toast though, mainly because cheese exists because of clever little bacteria and are likely the closest to extra terrestial life we'll get to.

Think on, next time you're enjoying a fine bit of cheddar, there could be a few extra-terrestrial bacteria in there brought here on a passing comet tens of millions years ago.

No, I doubt we are but as GOT said above the vastness of space makes it incredibly improbable that we will find each other.

Then there's the other side of the coin, looking at human civilization over history, we're a violent species. It is likely that whatever other form of life we encounter that had the ability to consolidate resources and secure the freedom to evolve the brain power necessary for interspatial travel will also be violent too.

So would it be a good idea to announce your existence to other forms of life? I'd suggest it might end in conflict.

Christ I must be bored.

But, would folk who believe in the Bible, or any other religious tombs that are available, believe or reckon other life might be in the neighbourhood?

Like has God/Allah, etc etc, created other places? For giggles like?

I would, just for the fume, if I was a God.

Lewis certainly believed such*, but your "average religious person" varies greatly on this subject

*Edit: I'm no Lewis scholar, but as I understand he not only believed other life was possible, he seemed to think it was likely/necessary because of his religious beliefs

Alternately, we understand so little that maybe our null hypothesis should be the incompleteness of our models and the likelihood that our conclusions are incorrect? (Most physicists would probably disagree with this sentiment I'd guess)

Not a clue who Lewis is, or was. But he must be a top academic to say its "possible". I could say that. So could a 5 year old.

But surely, if you are deeply religious. As in one God, of whatever persuasion, then you must say Nay to the existence of another God having a playground.
