Are the away fans correctly situated?

At Newcastle, the away fans are way up "in the Gods" and can hardly be heard.

The West Ham match felt like a home game for the Hammers! And that really seemed to give their players impetus.

I can't help but wonder if the away section at Bramley-Moore is poorly situated. They can really influence the game from where they are.
Only Newcastle have special permission in the league to house the away fans like that. Everyone else has to have them kind of where we have them. Nothing we can really do about it.

This really.

Newcastle’s United Official Statement:

“Newcastle United can confirm the club has been granted exemption from the Premier League’s ‘Away Supporter Location’ ruling.

“Premier League rule 10.3, which was introduced at the start of the 2017/18 season, requires clubs to locate away supporters together, with a minimum of one seating block to be situated pitch-side, subject to local authority approval.

“Since the redevelopment of St James’ Park in 2000, away supporters have been located on level seven of the Leazes Stand and will remain there after extensive consultation with the local authority, emergency services and independent consultants concluded it to be the most appropriate location to ensure the safety of away supporters.

“The club adopted a positive approach following notification of the Premier League’s rule change and commissioned detailed crowd flow modelling of supporter movements on a match day, to determine if a safe relocation option could be accommodated.

“This considered all stands and sections within the stadium.

“However, analysis showed that each proposed option for relocation significantly increased the risk of confrontation, conflict and potential disorder between home and away supporters entering and, in particular, exiting the stadium.

Following a number of meetings of the stadium Safety Advisory Group, the Local Authority formally agreed not to support any move of away supporters from their current location, concluding that such a relocation would introduce a significant risk to spectator safety.

“The club is satisfied that it has taken all reasonable steps to comply with the ruling and welcomes the granting of an exemption by the Premier League.”

We have 3 of the other corners.

NO EXCUSES

I'd put them in the upper tier behind the goal.

I agree last night they were very loud but could just be where the TV mics are situated. Also just perception as you could never see the away fans at Goodison from the normal cameras but now they're full view when away team is attacking.

They're in exactly the same spot as away fans at Spurs ground though. And Arsenal also put away fans in the corner at the other end so not much difference.

War there last night and in west stand. It wasn’t just the tv, they were very loud indeed when they got going (the Lino, Sullivan and Karen what’s her name getting a lot of the same (opposite of can in cockney)) chant throughout.
If anything, the presence of 3,000 concentrated away fans is further evidence of the fantastic acoustics in the stadium and roof design. It’s our responsibility to replicate that in the other three corners and all round.

I've only been to Mansfield game, but like you said the acoustics was fantastic (away section included)

There was a moment when the South Stand was in full voice and it was superb. It shows that its possible to have a great atmosphere in any part of the stadium, but the football on display will always have an impact in how vociferous and vocal a fan is.
