Are Evertonian Players Important?

I think it's personal preference. From the responses so far, some think it's a good thing, others stress it's about the standard of the player.
All players are going to do what's best for them in the long run. Whatever you think of Rooney, he wouldn't have won much, if anything, had he stayed at Everton. Everton needed the money from the sale (and got it on the drip rather than up front as that suited our owners). Rooney had people advising him who pointed out he could earn £50k a week at Everton, or multiples of that at Man U, with endorsements / image rights etc. on top. He wouldn't have got the England caps he's got (important to him, whether or not it bothers you). It really was a no brainer. He's still an Evertonian. Still brings his kids up as Evertonians, as when his career is over, he'll be back watching them you can be sure.

I had the privilege of meeting Tim Cahill for a few hours in Singapore in 2007, and when he was talking about Everton, it was clear the passion he had for the club, and the high esteem he held the fans in - so much so that when I'd asked the Aussie Football Federation if we could have him for an evening, they told me in non-GOT-approved language no. Someone at EFC sent a message to Tim, and he told them he was doing it, end of.

There were fans from other clubs in attendance that night - expats as well as local, and to a man they told me afterwards that they could never envision "their" players doing that, or their club surreptitiously helping local fan groups organise it.

I have been critical of our ownership (and still am), but when it comes to facilitating player-fan engagement, like EiTC, we're streets ahead.

I want either

a. Top class players who are born Evertonians like Harvey and Rooney.

b. Top class players who become Evertonians like Ball, Kendall, Ferguson and Cahill.

or

c. Top class players who will give their all for the club while they're playing for us whatever their allegiances because they're good professionals aswell as good footballers.

Not arsed as long as there good players, its sound if there a blue though starting off but usually most players that come to us fall in love with everton

Could care less as long as they are good. It is nice to have players like Baines who love the club and are great players (not right now like but neither is anyone!). But players who are with us long enough grow to love us anyway. But that would happen at any club I guess unless you're an absolute mercenary.

To be honest Rooney isn't fit to be mentioned alongside the White Pele as regards to his status as an Evertonian mate IMHO.

...good footballers are more important than Everton footballers. The fact that you are a Blue doesn't necessarily mean you will die for the cause on the pitch.
