LOVE GOT JUST THE WAY IT IS #ALWNV
Some of the recent posts on the forum demanding "transparency" over transfer fees and the like. Just makes me think that some do not understand how an operation like Everton works.

This summer we were in a war with Chelsea.

Everyone thought we couldn't win it. We were being told we couldn't win it.

We did win it.

Are Everton fans naive?

Are some out of touch with football in general?

I'd say this is normal. If we weren't fighting our way as a club, resisting competitors what would we have to talk about?

No mate, I don't think they are, and to suggest so is somewhat offensive in my opinion.

They're passionate and want the best for their club ("their" spiritually rather than strict ownership)

Many are frustrated, and the club do not help by not presenting a clear strategy for development. We have an articulate manager who speaks with passion about our past and future. The fans deserve something similar from the Board backed by substance.

Some are naïve.
Some like a bit of fishing.
Some are over 6 foot tall.
As a whole no I don't think we're naïve.
Do you think maybe you've seen one op on transparency you disagreed with and now want to extrapolate it to represent the whole fan base?

I'm sure that some can consider the proposition whilst having a thick enough skin not to get offended.

I was naive.

I can admit that. You have to watch this board like hawks.

If anyone has seen 'house of cards' on netflix the closest I have seen to some of the actions of this board @davek

This board could make something bad look ok by dressing it up as something noble. I feared this would happen on the John Stones thing. Luckily it didn't. Partly I think due to a loss of naivety to a certain extent. That the board knew they'd be held accountable big time this summer.

Then partly we see this 'number 10' thing again and again. Where people look naive demanding whys; in that there are reasonable things to explain that. Like the one Martinez wanted wasn't available at a reasonable price.

Then people looking naive demanding we pay - unreasonable prices - for that player.

You get me?

I don't think it is unreasonable to be asking why we need to borrow £20m each season at 8.8% interest from Vibrac.

Is this really the best value loan we could be taking? My business can borrow at around 5% and we don't have guaranteed income from month to month let alone a huge lump sum guaranteed to us through TV revenue*

* although BT Sport are currently in negotiations to broadcast me running SQL scripts

Naive maybe in the sense that we still hang on to the faded idea that we are a big club. The fact that Stoke and West Ham allegedly beat us to targets this window ruffled more than a few feathers. We are a club with a rich history, but the TV money that is now being pumped in the Prem means that many more clubs will have the opportunity to be bought out by real money. So the 7th place trophy and the odd chance of some Europa away days might be our future unless someone with real money takes a shine.Just keep our fingers crossed it isn't a Thaskin Shinawatra or an Alexandre Gaydamak.

that there is a difference between what the club elects to tell the fans and information demanded by the fans does not make the fans naïve.

I think it speaks volumes of the fans that many feel so passionate about the club that many articulate their thoughts, opinions and feelings so well.

Inevitably there are some bells.

....I don't think naive is an accurate description at all. I prefer to think our fans are savi and realistic, perhaps too pessimistic at times but that comes from disappointments. Rather be realistic than deluded.

Some are probably a bit naive. But you may as well ask 'Are some Everton fans stupid?'

Not every fan has time to be as 'into' football as some others and don't know all the ins and outs. Why should they?

It's actually pretty offensive to suggest they all should know everything.

I think we are as savvy as any group of fans. I think you might be confusing nativity with hope.
It is not naive to hope for the best. I wanted Everton to bring in a good attack minded midfielder, I hoped that we would get Yarnalenko, I wanted to believe he would be slotting through balls to Lukaku week in week out. I wanted to believe but deep down did I really believe we would get him, I think not.
Because I want to believe and want the best for Everton I'm hopeful not naive.
