They were intending to play in their domestic leagues and the ESL, but there would have been no automatic qualification for the ESL (or relegation from it for those clubs) for domestic league placement, so it would have made domestic leagues into reserve competitions (which probably is the intention, as they’d compete with the ESL otherwise).
Cheers for the info. I didn't really follow it at the time and saw earlier that the fines had been rescinded.

It will resurface in a few months and the American owned clubs will again be at the forefront of it all. They want a league like the NFL, a closed league with tight salary caps so no one gets relegated and everyone makes a profit without risk. Liverpool and the rags owners are behind it all. It's always amazed me that a country built on and proud of it's capitalism. A country so afraid of socialism that morons like Trump get elected. A country that supposedly defines democracy and the free market. Yet they embrace communism in sport like it's the most natural thing in the world.
It's not communism, it's naked unbridled self interest for the owners.

Before the season out they announce it again and there will be nothing to stop them this time

This confirms it's going to happen, UEFA do not have a leg legally to stand on.

No wonder PSG wanted no part of it, the stringent FFP rules for the Super League are so much better than the joke of UEFA attempt at it.

I think UEFA will go head bowed to those clubs, and it will be under the UEFA banner with the clubs having the most control, no way will UEFA be getting the same tv revenues without those clubs not in the CL, so they'll have to compromise and call it the UEFA super league and not make it a closed shop so it has some actual sporting integrity.

To be fair, as much as the American owners will bite their hands off to be involved, and they love the idea, it's actually the brain child of Juventus' chairman and Perez at Madrid to save their clubs from financial disaster. Perez has wanted one for years and years.

Juve chairman has a hatred of the PL, he's almost obsessed with the financial power of the PL, so many articles over the years of him moaning about the PL.

Perez, Laporta want it because both clubs are in debt up to the eyeballs.

Head says i want it because to stick it to UEFA who have just been lazy and corrupt in dealing with the 2 petro dollar clubs, and heart says no just to stick to fingers up at the likes of Agnelli and Perez so the PL will be like the NBA hoovering up all the cash and the top players coming here that the other leagues are just end up being feeder leagues for the PL.

City and some of the other English clubs wanting to rip up their agreement to join the super league, but apparently Liverpool and the rags have put a block on that in the last week.

It's quite easy, they can back out if they so wish. We've already seen threats of fines from all sides be bluff. So if City suddenly have morals again, they could quite easily rip it up.

Really? You should let City's legal team know. I'm sure they will be more than happy to take the word of some bloke on the internet that all those binding legal agreements they signed up to can just be ignored.

I think it's another ruse to get more money from UEFA for the CL expansion in 2024.

The European Super League, which was introduced as a result of the collaboration between some of the continent’s elite football clubs, had a surprisingly short lifespan. The mega-rich powerhouses from England, Spain, and Italy formed an alliance back in April to have their clubs play in a league of their own.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were quick to reject their invitations. Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s PSG later followed suit. The protests against the Super League spread like wildfire within the football community and the elites had no choice but to put their plans on hold for the time being.

It was fairly certain that the ESL would make a comeback, perhaps with better and more convincing ideas and guidelines. WirtschaftssWoche (via Sport1) has given us an overview of just that. But did they really make it better? Let’s take a look:

According to the German outlet, the new version of the Super League would not have permanent members as initially decided and will be an open competition just like the Champions League. The league will be divided into two divisions with 20 teams each as it opens the door for more clubs to participate.

As a part of making amends for the events in April, the members are reportedly planning to pay more attention to the fans and steer the boat in a way that would satisfy them – which would mean giving the fans grants to travel to away games and a reservation of 70 percent seats in the finale for supporters of the two competing sides.

The members are waiting for a verdict from the European Court of Justice and plan to start working on ESL 2.0 as soon as everything is cleared up.

Nothing to see here. Let's get this cash cow on the road and make the scabs some more money.
