Anyone rather be pants again?

We're no good at being favourites or when people are talking about us as being a decent team.

Now that we have a decent first 11, at least 2 respected pundits tipping us for top 4 would you not rather just be rubbish again?

The feeling after being beaten by Reading after a gash 2nd half was horrible and may not wane until Weds-Thurs until we start to look forward to getting back to the Old Lady for those tools from the East.

Past couple of seasons a defeat of this nature made (well me anyway) shrug my shoulders, give the old "we are Everton after all" and it's dealt with within a few hours. Now expectations are higher so the defeats/draws are harder.

I think I am answering my own question is so much as, I think I would rather take the rough with the smooth, but FFS Everton. Really?
Who? Please don't say Alan Shearer

We tend not to do too well when we're "expected" to win.

Look at our results this season. Aston Villa and Swansea games were both excellent results. Were we really expected to go there and win? Sure, we should have been aiming to but we were hardly what I'd call clear favourites. But we went there and smashed them both. Man Utd - deserved win whilst being underdogs.

Then look at our results vs QPR, Reading and Wigan. Indeed Sunderland - who hadn't scored in numerous games - not only took the lead against us but probably should have been further ahead before we finally got the win, and a big win it was.

We have a recurring problem when it comes to games we "should" be winning. We tend to make it an awful lot of hard work.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased with where we're at currently. If you'd given me 20 points from 12 games I'd have taken it but it's once again the classic "well our performances have deserved more". I think there is some sort of mental issue with us when we have games - like Norwich on Saturday - where everyone seems to be predicting a clear Everton win. More often than not it doesn't work out like that.

it will come with experience, the last couple of years we've had to put up with teams coming to goodison and settling for a point. we have to learn that as we are improving to put such teams away - it's what seperates the best from the rest. as we're improving we'll deal with the burden of being total favourites eventually and hopefully only suffer said defeats very rarely. after all, we've only lost what twice in 21? we're going to lose some games

says a lot that we are complaining about being 4th/5th....

we need to smash norwich though....won't be easy after their win, but I would hope the team would feel they have a point to prove after the second half against reading. Am looking forward to miralles coming back (hopefully) and naismith being played in his true position.
