Anyone on here play or used to play Sunday? I run a Sunday a league team and I’ve come to the conclusion we’re awful, I mean some of our performances have made Everton’s ( before ancelotti and big dunc) look class. We’re slow, unreliable and lose a lot.....but it’s football and we all love football

Many moons ago in the mid 80s I played in the Harlesdon league. It was quite tough but boss to play games quite regularly in the shadow of the old Wembley stadium. Usually a couple of scousers in most teams which was good craic too. We played decent footy actually but teams who had lads in from high level Saturday teams usually had an edge on us.

Our old keeper used to turn up in jeans and has been known to have a smoke in goal and the odd can of beer beside the post. We were a decent side so he didn't have much to do but when he had to he was superb. Would have been a decent semi-pro at least if he wasn't a fat drunken smoking hippo. Top fella.

I used to play Saturday leagues and occasionally Sundays to keep fit. Sunday league is largely dogturd. Crap players, crap pitches, crap facilities, crap referees, no linesmen. I'd pick up way more injuries on the Sunday games because the players were fat slow thugs who couldn't play but could kick.

I played in the 80's, used to enjoy it but as posted, some, including over enthusiastic teammates took it and themselves far too seriously. I then discovered birds n booze so that put paid to my Sunday football.

Played tons back in the day. Bristol Crusaders, Portway No Stars, and a pretty successful works team. Well, very successful works team. We won 5 trophies in one season somehow. (2 ex pros, and a decent number of Portway players helped like.)

Great days.

Yep, over 45s though. Played in the over 35s for the best part of the last ten years, then moved up to the 45s this year.

Last year we got one point all season from a 0-0 draw.

This season we've been unbeaten all season, had a cup semi final coming up after already having knocked the holders out, and funnily enough were 2 wins away from winning the league when it all got cancelled.

We set up a Sunday league team from work once in the late 90s, only lasted a season but was great fun, we were pretty awful and finished second from bottom of the league .

Recreational GAA on a Sunday which is great for me now. Quit early through injuries but at non competitive level I can laud it over my opposition as my legs haven’t gone yet.

It’s like holding the tide back:blush:
