Hello all, I've been interested in coaching football for a long, long time as I think I'd make a better coach than a player. I've also registered my interested in the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football course many times, but always find an excuse not to.

Has anyone here does this introductory course? How was it? Was it worth your time? Anyone gone any further and done the level 2 course?

Level 1 = turn up and you pass. you don't really need to know much, mine was full of just people who wanted to be a sunday league manager just so their son can play week in week out.

Yeah I got that impression from the manifesto. What age range went to yours?

I think I was the youngest so about 19-50. I may take it further as I'd love to be a full time coach somewhere but its just too hard to get into unless you're a ex-professional or semi pro

FA Level 1+2 its not that hard, just really turn up blast through your sessions and be well prepared. Stick at it and youll benefit in the long run!

If you want to get on, you have to get the pieces of paper. you have to stick to the perceived wisdom as set down by the people who write the guide lines for the exam and thus the course you take.
If they say, for the purposes of football coaching say, but it could be Economics or History or anything that is open to any sort of Interpretation / because I say so... if they say; 2+2=5, if you put 5 then you pass if you put 4 or something else you fail.

Coaching Certs is like your driving test, you do it their way to pass, you then by accident or design find your own way of doing things and unless you are really really stupid or unlucky you don't die in a car wreck.

The Coaching Cert or Fork Truck driving Cert or what ever, helps you get the job. How you shape after that ( despite the Cert ) helps you KEEP the job,and if you are really good and Lucky you might win something.

50 odd of the top coaches in the FA Cup might have the UEFA Cert I, but only one will win it, if it came down to just the badge, then there would be a lot of draws and replays.

So get as many Badges as your time, brain, wife and wallet allow, but only you can decide if you are, internally, by nature a Roberto or a Big Sam.
