Anyone care about the Carling Cup

We've never won the carling cup and that pisses me off. And we should do anything to get into europe. Oh and another day out at wembley, even if it's in february would make the season. Apart from that I'm not arsed.

I guess the point of the article is that there is not any real sense of achievement in winning the Carling Cup. It is not a competitive competition. The reason is exactly what was said above, teams have other priorities. The countries elite like Man Utd, Chelsea etc will play reserve sides in the competition. The newly promoted clubs prefer to be out of it. I think it should be scrapped or if not scrapped then give the winners more incentive to win, like a champions league place or something similar.

I know winning it will give us a trophy, but is it really that much of an achievement to win a cup that no-one actually cares about?

Having not won anything in 16 years, yep, it has to be. Regardless of who puts out what team, its one of the 3 domestic trophies. I totally agree they need to do something about the rewards of this trophy though

Sadly, we fall in the bracket of teams that can't put out 17 years and win easily (maybe we can, we just never try it) or in the bracket of teams that can field nobody's and not give 2 hoots about going out. This is our best chance of Europe, which is what we're all after at the end of the day

As I've always said, it's only a 'tin' cup until you win it. Everything changes then and even those who were staunchly against the idea of the competition in the 2nd Round will have changed their minds.

Oh, and as someone has already pointed out, it's a route into Europe.

Exactly, tell Arsenals fans that it doesn't matter when they lost last year. Or Mourinho when it was the first trophy he won in England and set them on the way to success. Or Spurs fans or Brum fans or Boro fans. It's only worthless when you don''t win it. There's plenty of teams who would love to win the carling cup, don't think otherwise. It's still an achievement to do so.
