Anyone care about the Carling Cup

Personally I hope we lose on Wednesday. A Carling Cup run seems like a mere distraction to me. There is no money in the competition, no pride in the competition. All it offers is entry into the even less prestigious Europa League.

The way I'm feeling at the moment is that the only way I can get renewed optimism for anything regarding this faltering team who cause me more ditress than happiness, is 3 league wins in a row. Thats all i'm holding out for now, failure to do this and I will just lose interest.

The manager is stubborn and tactically inept. The players showed a total lack of professionalism against QPR and could have played for 180 mins and not scored in potentially the easiest game we will have all season. The board is a joke and we appear to be in more trouble than we think. 3 wins from our next 3 league games or my interest is gone, I just cant take the sheer anger anymore.

I don't particularly want to get into Europe cause i've had too much emaressment from our previous adventures which outweigh the good bits.

However i'd love to win a trophy at Wembley.

I'm saying that the Europa League is a joke. It is not a respected competition and their is no real honour in winning it, considering the lack of interest shown by the teams that enter it. If the winner gets a Champions league spot then that would make a massive difference. The Carling Cup is the same, teams dont care about it, even Championship teams put out weak squads in the first round. I'm saying there is no real achievement in winning it as Its considered just a distraction to most clubs.

You are all a bunch of muppets... I for one want us to win everything, like the rest of you should

That's dedication for you, that is.

The last two seasons i've put up with bad starts and kept the faith. But that absolute pish against QPR really was the last straw, it was an unlosable game given the state of QPR going into the match. The players showed no desire, no passion. If it was Carsley, Stubbs, Weir, Ferguson and that group then they would not have been joking with the other team when we went behind, they would have been embarrased and given 100% effort to come back, not 50%.

We also have some of our players on twitter praising Man Utd and supporting them (Neville & Saha tonight). I think a lot of this team we have now dont care about the club half as much as the old guard used to and unless they do something to prove to me that they can perform with the right attitude then stuff them.

Tell Porto the Europa league is a joke. Or Fulham.

Tell Arsenal the league cup is a joke, I'm sure when Obafemi Martins scored they felt it was anything but.

And 3 wins from our next 3 games? That seems reasonable...

I can understand frustration, anger and disappointment, but you've just ventured into sheer pessimism. In fact I'd say it's closer nihilism. So I'll repeat what I said before: why bother?

I'd like to win it, definitely. It would be nice to win something, despite it's inferiority with the FA cup.

Europa League football is a positive for sure. Even if it was just for the small amount of money involved.

3 wins out of 3 is reasonable yes. from those 4 fixtures we should have been looking at 10 points. qpr home, b'burn away, wigan and villa home. Our run after that is difficult and we need points on the board otherwise it will be a groundhog day season and thats not something I personally will be looking forward to. Regarding other posts, my passion for Everton should not be questioned, I have spent 3 days pissed off now since that qpr result. I would be up for the Carling cup game if we had won it, but I see the league games as the must win ones after that opening day shower.

I miss just being in a European competition.

Saying it's crap because we're not going to win it, or it's crap because even if we do win it it's not "prestigious" defeats the point for me.

I mean, by the same logic, why follow Everton in the premier league? We're definitely not going to win that competition and at this point 5th or 6th would be a miracle. And even that's hardly "prestigious".
