Went into it expecting big things after all the rave reviews but was not expecting anything quite like the last 30 or so minutes

Ex machina was utter horse patter. Is this the same sort of contrived crap?

Yes mate it’s terrible that’s why I made a thread about it
Is it “ come in pissed from the boozer and watch it and think wtf that was crap but I still watched it”

OR

“ that was crap I want that time back “

Saw the trailer today - couldn't make my mind up whether this would be boss or absolute horse crap

It’s easily one of best sci-fi films I’ve seen in past few years, it’s properly weird/unique but manages to avoid being contrived. I think Gartland is a brilliant writer/director though and loved Ex Machina.

I’m sure people who dislike this type of sci-fi will try and make out it’s pretentious but I think it did really well to avoid going up its own ass given the subject matter.

The ending is the reason it didn't get picked up by a UK distributor. Garland was asked to change it but said no.

Yeah apparantely they thought it was too “intellectual” for most audiences, what a depressing state of affairs that is.

I’m glad he valued his artistic integrity over more box office sales as the ending for me is one of the most memorable endings I’ve seen.

I was wondering why it all seemed so familiar. I had read "The Southern Reach" trilogy, but forgot that the first book was called annihilation. Decent trilogy. Along those lines, I can't wait for "Wool" "Shift" "Dust" etc., as part of the Silo series to come out on film.

Very undecided by the trailer, but I'm going to give it a chance and watch it later this morning ;)

Trailer massively undersells the movie tbh, pretty clear they tried to make it look fairly standard sci-fi/horror to pull in large audiences... reality is it’s way deeper than that.
