I love things like this. As we develop as a race we think we are becoming more clever and technologically superior..... but we are forgetting the Foundations on which our whole existance has developed from. Newer is not always better.

Barney Stinson begs to differ... :o

It is one of the scariest parts of human history that the Romans were - in many areas - as techonologically advanced as we were in the 18th or even 19th century, and yet lost it all because of idiocy, corruption and greed. Its also scary how few people get taught about it in school.

Agreed. When I was younger I never truly appreciated what the 'Dark Ages' meant. I thought it must have been due to the Black Death or something - I never really considered it, basically - and was under the assumption that human advancement only ever increased with time. It's only fairly recently, as an adult, that I realised the Romans and Greeks (especially) were masters of all forms of modern science, maths, engineering, philosophy, law, governance e.t.c thousands of years ago. It made my head spin considering that, if not for the f**king barbarians at the gate, the Industrial Revolution might have happened a thousand years or more before it actually did.
Lord knows where humanity would be now if that had happened.

It wasn't just the Romans and Greeks either, Egyptians, Persians etc were all up to some pretty clever stuff weren' they??

It's mad to think. We could all be living in space right now! Ofcourse, just because certain advances/technologies might have been made earlier/remembered, it may still have been dependent upon certain people to make some discoveries - your Newtons, Einsteins etc. But then again, if the world in general was more advanced, imagine what people like them could have achieved!!?

Indeed - the Romans were incredible. Modern architects are still baffled at how the Romans built the Pantheon in Rome, it was built just under 2000 years ago and it still has the largest unreinforced concrete dome.

Well sounds like we might be about to find out!

The chinese can make eggs ffs....EGGS !!

& boss knock off copies as well obviously, but like the Ancient Civilisations they do have their shortcomings, usually to do with killing babies and stuff.
The Mayans may have indeed gone to live in Space if Ancient Markings of Landing Sites are to be believed.

As for The Greeks, they invented the 'ing' stuff, mainly Plumbing and Bumming.

There is a story I have in some book somewhere about a fella who built a home, high garden walls and a door for access which weighed a few tons yet could be opened with the slightest touch of a finger.... legend has it he used no machinery to do this ..only hand tools .... he even moved home ...literally.... overnight , yet nobody knows how he managed it as each stone had been quarried by hand and weighed enormously heavy weights... he never gave up his secret how it was done. I will research it properly tomorrow and give a proper account.

Ah, that's Coral Castle in Florida...
