an end to this 'FIFA are fixing it for Brazil' nonsense

The worst ever? Really?

Surely the side in 1990 was worse?

Brazil 1990 had Romario, Bebeto and Dunga even though many of the squad were average and it wasn't a particularly great squad. This Brazil squad is the first I can remember with no genuine world class players. Neymar is a show pony and Luiz hasn't got a brain in his head.

So fifa gave them help against Croatia but didn't bother for a semi against Germany?
Ok then.

I didn't mention FIFA. They cheated and won the game against Croatia undeservedly, whether that was via corrupt or inept officials is of no concern to me. I'm just glad they were given one hell of a beating.

I didn't even know they played in 1990. I can only remember them from 1994

I recall the 1990 team got out of a pretty easy group and then lost to the first decent team they faced

There's no way that Brazil were going to be allowed to lose the opening game. With the dodgy pen and the disallowed Croatia goal, it is pretty clear they were handed that game on a plate. Since then it has been very fortuitous for them, just scraping past Chile and with a couple of homer refs. Germany didn't give Brazil a chance to invoke any of their jokers in yesterdays match. Funnily, you could see Germany looking at the ref every time they scored, almost expecting to have the goal disallowed.

Fix? No, just a bit of politcal manipulation and a very extreme example of home advantage.

That does actually make sense, though.

The host team going out with 2 games to go isn't going to make or break a world cup. The host going out in the group stages though is going to have a huge effect on the crowds for the rest of the tournament.

I mean I don't buy that there are any FIFA conspiracies but I do think that if one exists it makes sense that it only cares about the early rounds.

South Korea when hosts were the benefit of some dubious calls also if I recall correctly.

Yeah, against spain and italy.

I think it's just the home advantage every team gets, a lot of refs are kinder to the home team than the away team just because of pressure.

I mean South Africa didn't get out of their group, so there is counterpoints.

The refs can only do so much to assist a team through the groups. SA were really rubbish.

I agree to a certain extent. The opening game was the only game where the referee was obviously favouring the home side. After that the reffing was either very good or not so good, but not massively biased towards Brazil.
