Just booked a last minute 3 days in Amsterdam to treat our best friends....any recommendations for great drinking places (ideally craft beers and cocktails) plus cool eating places that aren’t too expensive? Looked on google and there’s shed-loads but always reckon a recommendation is better. In terms of eating then proper burgers, steak or bbq type restaurant, Italian or something local.

Was planning doing the seedier stuff the first night followed by a bit more relaxed the second....and maybe back to the seedier bit again on the third. Already located the best ‘coffee bars’.

I went to Amshterdam for the first time last October. Beautiful place.

Cigars are dirt cheap in the Nesherlands too, if that's your bag.

Can't believe I'm typing this but agree with Frank. Just have a stroll around and find something that takes your fancy on the way - there are tonnes to choose from. The amount of places that look BAD from the outside but end up being class inside is mad.

As for an actual recommendation, the Temple Bar [yes, an Irish pub] by the RLD is class. Can be a little quiet but it's in a nice spot.

There's another place in the RLD itself - Old Town. It's tiny but if you can sit at the always open window, it's great for people watching as there's a door basically next to it and groups form outside as they debate whose going in. It's across from the Bulldog and there's always something going on around there.
