When you turn pro at 17 you can't fight the big names, it's just common sense. A schoolboy is just not developed physically or mentally to tackle the elite fighters. Mike Tyson was 21 when he won his first title and he was the youngest ever, Khan is still just 21 now
I know loads of boxers in Merseyside and used to box myself when i was younger. Fights aren't all about fighting names when you are young, you need to fight lesser people with different boxing techniques and styles to get you prepared to fight the best at those styles.
To call them bums is unfair and most fights aren't even picked by a boxer at that age, they are picked by his team for being the best opponent to improve him as an overall fighter
