Americans on the World Cup

I remember in 94 when you had the world cup, and the journalists from the uk was out in the streets of the US asking people about the world cup and hardly anyone had a clue.

The game has grown a lot with you guys since then by the looks of it and when i've been in the states its always on the tv.

In 94 an American fan was asked what they thought about Maradona and her reply was "she's a fantastic singer"

On the one hand when I clicked on this, I thought it was going to be another "look how stupid the Americans are" video. So I was pleased it wasn't.

On the other hand, this was in Manhattan. Film this in Birmingham, AL and it might be a little different. I will say this though. When it comes to the World Cup, patriotism in this country will often trump passion or knowledge of the sport. Even a lot of non-fans watch because it's one of the few times we get to root for a National team in any sport other than basketball.

Yeah, those RM kids are just sad. Clearly bandwagon.

Funny he was stumped by the hockey shout out... a bit of turnabout.

He doesn't know who the Rangers are? He's not a New Yorker! Get that impostor out!

This sort of video is always funny, but it obviously excludes most of the knowledgeable people. It'd be pretty boring (maybe not?) to hear street conversations with knowledgable fans. And if you're looking for dumb fans video, the one below is the absolute best. (Matt Harvey, a young Mets pitcher, interviews New Yorkers on what they think about Matt Harvey, a young Mets pitcher).
