Wondering if our resident Americans can help me out or those who have been to america, does anyone know the correct website to apply for an america visa?

Well if the US border control is as bad as ours then just walk in with a foreign accent and say you will work for [Poor language removed] all.

My mate tried to get an American Visa, many, many years ago. I suppose well over 10 now. The form asked him if he had any criminal convictions, he put down his little possension of Cannabis, he had to go down to London to the American embassy for a little meeting, where he was told that he was being refused a visa. Made me laugh at the time, i dont think he saw the funny side tho.

they used to have a little tick box on the single entry green card visa - that asked,

Did you participate in the Nazi Holcaust during world war 2?

Trust me, immigration officers have no sense of humour whatsoever.

went to the states when my eldest was a baby, with all the arsing about getting our stuff together on the plane we were last in the queue to clear immigration, we were in this huge hall with everyone queuing quietly and she decided to open her lungs, this head popped out of the booth at the far end of the line and the official shouted down, "get down here, get your passport stamped and GET THAT CRYING BABY OUT OF HERE !! ". so if travelling via newark it may be an idea to have a baby first.

Are you visiting? If so then you are part of the Visa-waiver program and can stay here up to 3 months with no Visa.

If you are coming here to live/work/go to school it is a completely different process, and differs for each situation. Give me some more specifics and I can probably help out as I am [still] going through it all for my wife.

i also doubt if our resident americans would be aware of where to go for a visa as they dont need one.

As pointed out below by Dylan im sure a lot have had to go thru the process with family/friends. But your right, i wouldnt have a clue how somebody would go about it the other way round, i mean do you need a Visa to get into this country? I know EU people dont need 1, but other than that god only knows

I read on the bbc website that the US has introduced some scheme, whereby you have to go to a website first and fill in an online application.

in the good old days you'd just fill in a card 20 minutes before you were about to land (if you were from UK). But thats going back a bit - I've not been since I imposed on myself a personal ban on visiting there, whilst Bush was in power.

Check the link I posted above.

If you are visiting, you don't need anything short of your passport then.

New York is a cool place, and fortunately in my back yard. (If you call 120 miles down the interstate my back-yard ;))
