We've got a few influential players getting older and in need of a gradual transition out (not this season, but surely in the next couple of years), and if you accept that Fellaini and others may leave... Can't help get the feeling that this season is the last shot for this group of players for real success, before Moyes is going to have to blow it all up and try again, if indeed Moyes stays.

This thread is quite disheartening.

Baines won't go in the same window as Fellaini. We wouldn't need to sell them both at the same time. One would generate enough cash to keep us ticking.

I agree this year is going to pull us one way or the other. I'd settle for the FA CUP and Europa league qualification. I think that would be a fantastic achievement. I also think realistically we would be better off in the Europa league, we'd have a good chance at winning that one.

Financially however the Champions League is where we want to be.

However wishing us into Europe means that next year, with the extra games our squad could struggle. Similar to Newcastle in a way.

It's a good article, although I don't agree with it totally.

Firstly, you're blowing far too much sunshine up Moyes' arse. He's a very good manager and as thorough and hardworking as anyone, but a "genius" he is not, when you watch us play sometimes it looks like they players have never played together and couldn't be less arsed.

Secondly, if we're to make 4th then it will be collectively as a team. We can't rely on just 2 key players, or even 5 or 6 players. Everyone single player who makes the first XI and the bench is going to have to give something. It's about unsung Heroes.

Jelavic must start scoring again and provide a constant supply of goals.
Anichebe needs to step up again and make sure that he contributes as much in the next 16 games as he has in the last 16.
Gibson & Mirallas, for all their praise, need to get themselves fit and available to give our manager the options he needs to switch it around.
Pienaar & Osman need to show that they're still at the peak of their game
Neville needs to show that he can still offer leadership on the pitch, even if his legs have gone
Howard needs to show that his Southampton performance was the level that he can play, week in week out

It's all about the team. We can't be carried by just a few players. Unless we can get our form back the results just will not follow, and frankly we won't deserve CL football.

Lastly, It would be nice to think that CL means instant megabucks, but I think it has been shown that it is only continual CL qualification year on year where the money really starts to roll in, because of the way the payments are structured.
