Just wishing one of our few remaining Everton icons who entertained a generation of blues(including my old fella!) a happy 79th birthday, long live our Golden Vision.:)

on the old videos thread there was a game against the mancs ( I think we win 2-0 or 3-1 ) and he's absolutely superb in it. I think it might have been from towards the end of his career with us but not sure. That's the only game I've ever seen him play, it was a brilliant team performance but I paid particular attention to him.

Must be great being 79 and knowing if he walked down Goodison Road there are still folk who idolise him and folk who have never seen him play ( like me ) would still be star struck because of the way he's held in such high esteem

I was brought up on tales of him macca,my old fella told me straight he had his flaws, such as going missing in away games, however he worshipped him for his talent, how he glided across the pitch and his standing amongst blues at that time was almost god like,he is still to this day his hero, and mine by default, they say you should never meet your hero's,that couldn't be further from the truth with Alex,an absolutely fantastic fella who genuinely is mystified as to why he is still held with such affection by fellas like me who have never even seen him play:)

Evertonians take players to their hearts don't they mate, that's why you always hear so many ex players say it's a special club.

....certainly a class act. Great mover, fine leap and one of those quality players who look like they can play in carpet slippers. Saying that, he wouldn't be one of my favourites in the time I watched as he was a bit of a luxury but I can understand why some fans idolised him.

Absolutely up there with the best I have seen in a blue shirt. Pride of place in my hallway is a photo of me and the great man. I could only put Alan Ball up there with him. What was it he once said, " I have wore the royal blue of Scotland and I have wore the royal blue of Everton, but a certain warmth runs through your body when you pull the Everton shirt on"
Happy Birhday Alex
