Saw that. Nice to get a bit of recognition. Don't want to sound too bitter or paranoid, but if Villa or Spurs had beaten Chelsea and Utd in consecutive games and served up some of the footie we did while doing it, the media would have been creaming themselves

Nice find mate. To be honest the media have given us a fair amount of recognition since the United game. I even saw us called the best team in the league somewhere!

While the article points out we haven't been playing with an actual defensive midfielder, we have still had Ossie performing the destructive role with Arteta also sitting deeper so I'm not so sure it is as massive a change in attitude from Moyes that this piece is making it out to be.

Either way I'm loving it.

(1000 posts woohoo!)

Totally agree but it will be hard for them to keep us out of the headlines when we become a genuine top 4 team next season (maybe this with a lot of luck).

You can imagine the journo's now...... "What a lucky season for Everton, they won the Premier League by 12 points but it was because of the World Cup and the top 4 sides had lots of players missing and global warming made it hard for them to get re-adjusted etc etc etc"

The people who care (the fans) about this great club already know we are on the verge of something special and its the fans who are doing a great job of spreading the word from the gospel of goodison, the media will come crawling because they will have no choice, they will need us more than we will need them*

It's a coming I tell ya, you can smell it in the breeze (y)

* Apart from Sky and all their cash!!!!!

Nice article, the headline says it all for me. 'Wins over Chelsea and now Manchester United show that Everton offer a lot more than just resilience and hard work'. It's nice to see a little praise in the press once in a while. To steal from another thread, it's on!

Good days to be a blue.

What's struck me is the change in Moysie. Previously, I'd have bet money on him playing a conservative game against both Chelsea and Utd - and losing both. Like the game against Man U at OT when Pienaar gave away that needless penalty at the Stretford (*spits*) End.

Somethings happened that's led him to think differently in recent times. Long may it continue. Maybe the turning point was the game at Arsenal - we came away knowing that we had the beating of them...

Are we witnessing the professional maturing of Davie?

I think you have to give it a go and attack the top teams. Look at any of the top 5 their weakness is at the back.

I think the tactics may be part due to a bit of change in Moyes, but more so due to the circumstances.

a.) Has Moyes ever had such a wealth of attacking resources in mid...particularly wingers, and guys who can play anywhere across the mid?
- Our best midfield destroyer is out (Fellaini)
- We have Arteta coming back to form after a long-term injury
- We've got Pienaar, Cahill, Bily, Donovan, Osman, all playing at a high level
b.) Chelsea and ManU are surprisingly vulnerable at defense lately with Terry's mind not entirely on the pitch, Ferdinand dealing with injuries, G. Neville on the decline, etc.

We've shown in the past 5-6 games at least that we are the on-form team in the league and can play with anyone. So, why not go on the offensive?

In years and days past, Moyes has been hand-cuffed by the resources he has at his disposal. He has always been seen to be a manager that puts together a team that works its socks off for each other, but isn't known for their flair. If you look at his personnel moves, though, he's slowly been recruiting players that add more dynamism to the team.

I think now that many of those pieces are in place, we're starting to see the more polished team that Moyes has been trying to build.

Sometimes circumstances dictate tactical changes- injuries/suspensions etc, and Moyes has had to use more of the flair players than he would usually put out.

I think the main turning point though was the Anfield derby. It was such a poor display amongst a series of decent performances that I think it was a watershed for Moyes. I think he has come round to the fact that he has got to start taking the game to the 'top four' sides. We have now got the players to do it, and we have got to 'play' these teams rather than set up for a clean sheet.
