We would get snow as early as October in Connecticut. However, in Connecticut the coldest it gets is around 10 degree's F, here in Fairbanks it is not unusual to see -40 and sometimes as low as -60 (according to a guy on the plane who has lived here for over 40 years!!!)

And for those who care what type of plane it is, I looked up its registration number (N12347) and found it to be a Douglas DC-6A which was built in 1953.
 

Haha...wonders of the web. Yup that first photo shows the Everts Air Fuel sign, which is the registered owner, and they're a participant with the NOAA. Actually, it looks like they're the logistics headquarters which means it was more than likely just a cargo carrier. Interesting anyhow. You heading back tomorrow?
