EDIT - NOW CONFIRMED. See posts below.

Tim Sherwood turned them down.

@OliverKayTimes: Everton academy director Alan Irvine is to be appointed West Brom manager on Monday, reports @chrislepkowski. Surprise choice #WBA #EFC

Will be a big loss, he's done great work as the Academy boss. Surprised at WBA, Irvine didn't do well at Sheff Wed or Preston as boss. Some people just aren't cut out to be first team managers. I wish him all the best though if he goes.

Now confirmed by WBA as their new head coach. He's left Everton:

@WBAFCofficial: Albion delighted to announce Alan Irvine will be appointed as their new Head Coach. He has agreed a 12-month rolling contract #wba 1/3

...its clearly a step up for him. It would be a gamble for Baggies as he's failed elsewhere but he is a football man and if the report is true we wish him all the best. Major opportunity for somebody to take over a key position for us.

hmm, out of the blue, sad to see him go, but happy for him getting such a big gig.

doubt WBA fans will be overly happy with this tbh, certainly didn't see it coming.

Any ideas who will get the academy job?

Stubbs?

Can't see it. Will be someone with youth development experience, putting together syllabus' and coaching regimes. Stubbs strikes me as just a coach. Irvine did a lot of office-based work basically running our youth policy.

I can see Martinez bringing in someone from outside the club for this role.

Maybe even his mate Jordi Cruyff, who has been General Manager at Macaabi in Israel.
