Alan Green

The media is infested with Liverpool fans and the closest most of them have been to Liverpool is listening to a Beatles record on the radio.

Be careful mate, there's a real whopper on here, who will interpret and distort your post, and make you out to be a member of the KKK.

Having a pop at RS fan's who do not come from Liverpool, is now ideologically suspect.

Taking out his RS bias, Alan Green is/was a fabulous commentator. He has one of the best voices in the game. Of the current comms only Martin Tyler and Clive Tyldsley I’d rank above him.

The voice of John Motson in contrast was an abomination.

What would you say your favourite moments were?
Man U winning the ‘99 CL against Bayern, Solksjaer’s winner...

“The Munich players are on their knees, they don’t know what’s hit them...... Manchester’s hit them”

Just found that commentary....almost 10 minutes in..

Theres also commentary of a selection of other momentous sporting moments below.

Not sure if this post is the driest of comedy.

yerrrrrrr whaaa?

Mate, I’ve grown up listening f to Alan Green, I’m 28. I’ve managed to learn lots from him, like how he’s narcissistic, how he’s down right delusional, quite frankly insulting to so many (bricks to Stallone being an insight to the grandeur of delusion this whopper speaks).

hes got no clue. He’s an idiot, and unlike Tyldsley at ITV, he’ll be cheered out. Egotistical Gobshite.

Listening to the world service for over 30 years I always thought he had a great voice for commentary but he got worse with his bias over the years.

He is just awful.

I was listening to a game in 1992, I think....the year Leeds won the league?

He was commentating on a Leeds game and Trevor Brooking was his color commenta.

During a break in play, Green started ranting about how unfair it was that Torvill and Dean hadn’t won the Gold medal at the Winter Olympics, the night before.

Brooking asked him...”what do you know about ice dancing”?

Green replied “absolutely nothing....I just know they should have won”

Sums Green’s opinionated mutterings up to a T.

Ive never had much time for commentators trying to be smart and putting their own often biased slant on proceedings. This is especially true for radio where a true picture needs to be painted through words. Green hasnt really been a patch on his legendary radio predecessors I can recall. No sky or live tv matches then..just live national BBC radio commentaries by the likes of Bryon Butler and Peter Jones. Class acts.

compare football commentators to cricket commentors. The football ones are walking talking cliches, trying to blurt out the received thoughtspeak about the sky favourites or talking shabbite to fill the airtime, manipulating interpretations of the rules to appease the biased decisions. In cricket, all the commentators have played to the highest level, the let the pictures do the talking and when they do talk amongst themselves, you feel like you are listening into a conversation at a comfortable gentleman's club.

Oh, and I hate Alan Green. I'd break my hand before I tired of punching him in his grid.
