coulnt afford the boots , so had to felt tip stripes on a pair of white canvas sneakers, thought i had made it when i got a pair of white plastic trainers from great homer st market, only trouble is they had four stipes spent an entire night unpicking the extra ones off, luckly nobody else seemed to have any money in are school so i didnt feel a meff, i spent an entire season playing in brown canvas hockey boots(they went up to your ankle like something dixie would have worn)just because they had studs.Bally was one of the few truly world class players i have seen, him southall and possible lineker coulds say they were the best on the planet in there position at the time they played for everton

He was before my time but I got handed down a pair from my oldest brother. The other kids were a bit puzzled by my boots being white but I loved them cos my dad had told me all about AB.

Some good stories here lads, nice one. We need the sermons back (where ever!) to educate us youngns

Interesting thread

Reminds me of a work colleague of mine who was a pretty middle class southerner & when he told me he was an Everton fan my reaction was 'why Everton' to which he replied..

.. Alan Ball's white boots!

I am too young for Bally's boots but obviously I have been educated. In my era I had a pair of Pat Nevins Puma, got them for Christmas one year, so there I was boxing day pulling the tongues and folding them over as they did back then and I pulled a bit hard and the tongue came out, devastated and cried until my arl fella bought me a new pair.
